This is the time of the year where people are fireworks happy, and most pets are a nervous wreck!
Here are some hints to help most dogs jangled nerves through this ordeal:
Burn a good quality lavender/vanilla candle. I have found one that is comparable to ones at Bed Bath and Beyond for a reasonable price at your neighborhood Walgreens.
**I can never go into Bed Bath and Beyond without spending a small fortune!
Aromatherapy "stress relief" candles work best. Most time your dog will sleep through most of the noise, or they won't be as worked up as usual.
***NEVER LEAVE A CANDLE BURNING UNATTENDED****
If you are going to be away from home for firework activities a lavender plug-in works well too! It is safer than a candle and I have found that if you place a small fan in the room with the plug-in it carries the scent through out the house! Again check your neighborhood Walgreens, Menards and even the Dollar store has some good ones.
If you have cats......you may have to ride it out! I am still looking for something that works to mellow cats out during the fireworks. Most of the time they will just hide until things calm down. Lavender is in the same family as Cat Mint aka Catnip, it may have them bouncing off the walls! If that is okay for you.....have at it! When I use my lavender diffuser at least one of my cats will do break neck acrobatics to get a whiff!
Have a Safe and Happy Holiday!
